I’m very excited to announce that the PR company for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have contacted us and asked us if we’d do a giveaway for a free digital copy of the cast recording of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Musical which is now broadway bound. Not only can I not refuse a cast recording (a cast recording is a broadway term for soundtrack, except it’s a cast instead of music from a movie or tv show) that begins with people singing the word chocolate, but the music is amazing! They give all of the memorable characters their own new showtunes, but instead of the ones from the movie, they have reinvented them.
One of my favorite moments from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical is that they found a way to make Veruca even more of a brat. Instead of her singing I want it now like she did in the movie version, it’s her Dad singing about her being a brat and how he has to buy whatever she wants. Violet isn’t just a gum chewing blueberry, instead she is a rapping, gum chewing celebrity that is also known as a double bubble dutchess. Not only is her title royalty, they treat her like royalty…it gives a new meaning to blue blood with this ballooning blueberry. Mike isn’t just in tv in this, he is also a Hacker who hacks a life dream and hacks through the golden ticket contest. So you don’t complain, they still keep in Augustus falling into the chocolate river, Violet chewing gum and turning into a giant blue ball and all of the other fun mishaps that eliminate the kids from the contest to win the factory. The rest of the show carries you through an amazing world of candy, imagination and the chocolate factory that you fell in love with when you were a kid watching the movie.
If you got a chance to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London, then you know it is an amazing show that you must see. The cast recording is addictive and I’m listening to it while I’m typing this post. I can’t wait for it to finally come to broadway so US audiences can fall in love with it as well.
